Sport
We've had another busy term in the PE department with a full schedule of fixtures and matches across the school. It has been fantastic to see so many people getting involved in the sports and activities they enjoy. Please continue to attend clubs and look out for the changes to the options available next term.
Football
Girls
The U13 Girls have made the Quarter Finals of the Kent Cup having recently beaten Highworth Grammar School 10-3. They will now travel to Highsted Grammar School on Thursday 13th January, Kicking Off at 14:00. Fixture slips will be handed out in the New Year! The Girls have reached this stage having previously defeated Fulston Manor and The Sittingbourne School. We wish them the best of luck in 2022!
One step further than the U13 Girls football team, the U14 Girls have and are continuing to put Towers School into uncharted territory (making history) in both the Kent Cup and the English Schools National Cup, where they are now in the Semi-Finals and ‘Last 32’ respectively.
The U14’s recently, in the National Cup, travelled to Basilon to play the Woodlands Academy, a team which has players that represent: Chelsea, West Ham and Arsenal, all at U14 level. Towers went 5-0 up at half time and finished the game winning 6-2. Not only are the Towers School U14 Girls Football Team the last team left in the County in this National Schools competition, they certainly put a marker down and want to keep going! The next school that stands in their way is The Sandon School, Chelmsford, which is being played on Friday 7th January Kicking Off at 13:45. Like other fixtures, letters will be provided when we return in the New Year. If the girls can go one step further, they’ll join the ‘Last 16’ - It is worth noting that over 400 schools entered into the National Cup, the girls have already made us more than proud by making it to the last 32!
On the County front, the U14’s were victorious against a fiercely competitive St Gregory’s Catholic School from Royal Tunbridge Wells. Goals from J. Howard, E. Fuller and P. Cowley have put Towers into the Semi Finals where they will travel to either The Thomas Tallis School or The Charles Dickens School. This fixture is to be played on the fixed date of Saturday 15th January, Kick Off time unknown currently. The U14’s have reached this stage having beaten Highworth Grammar School, St Gregorys, Dane Court Grammar School and The Charles Dickens School. Like the U13’s, the U14s have more than delivered this season. A very interesting 2022 awaits!!
Boys
Year 9
The Year 9s made us very proud by reaching the ‘Last 16’ in the Kent Cup. They unfortunately met their match against a resolute and well drilled Sir Roger Manwoods School, having beaten teams previously such as The Charles Dickens School and The Harvey Grammar School. They played their best football all season during open play but sadly couldn't deal with set pieces, which moving forward is something to positively look forward to when they go again this time next academic year.
There will be friendly games in the New Year, keep your eyes posted on the Towers PE Twitter page for more information.
Netball
The girls netball leagues have come to a close this term. All teams have had a great season and have developed as a team. They should be very proud of themselves. The last few match results were as follows:
Year 7 v Folkestone School for Girls won 18-7
Year 8 v Homewood lost 6-3
Year 8 v Marsh lost 7-3
Year 10 v Marsh lost 7-3
Year 11 v Brockhill won 19-6
This means that the final standings are:
Year 7 - came 3rd but also gained the most goals for their team out of everyone
Year 8 - came 3rd place
Year 10 - have one game left to play but are currently in third place
Year 11 - won all of their matches and finished off in 1st place!
Congratulations to each and everyone of the girls who came to Netball club and attended the fixtures over the last two terms. You have worked so hard and your determination to improve and do well has paid off.
